Hoodia H57 Side Effects - What’s going on?
By Aaron Snider
Let’s take a close look at the possible side effects this seemingly magical weight loss supplement.
Hoodia has been used by the Bushman of South Africa to suppress appetite while on long hunting trips for centuries. However they use the unrefined cactus type plant raw, while we use a refined version. They also use it sparingly, not as an every day supplement for weight control.
Hoodia Side Effects include a potentially unwanted effect on the liver caused by the active ingredient p57. The biggest problem with this is that the effect of the p57 ingredient on the liver may interact in a negative way with other prescription drugs. Medical problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, depression, and other diseases, may require medications that interact unfavorably with Hoodia.
Pfizer bought the licencing rights to the drug to develop it for 21 million, but later returned rights. Jasjit S. Bindra, PhD, stated in a letter to the New York Times although hoodia did appear to suppress appetite, there were indications of unwanted effects on the liver caused by components other than the active ingredient p57 that could not easily be removed during processing.
He added “Clearly, hoodia has a long way to go before it can earn approval from the Food and Drug Administration. Until safer formulations are developed, dieters should be wary of using it”
Dieting is not an easy thing to do for sure, but sometimes the magic pill isn’t the best option. It’s probably better to do it the old fashion way, change your eating habits and start exercising.
Before ever making dramatic changes to your diet, always consult a doctor.
